Join us on Wednesday, January 14th to chat Digital ADA Compliance & Website Accessibility for Public Entities
Beginning in 2026 and 2027, all Title II public entities will be required to ensure their websites and online services are fully accessible for people using assistive technology. Accessibility isn’t optional anymore -- and just like physical buildings, websites or mobile apps that don’t comply after these dates could face the same consequences as physical spaces that aren’t up to code.
The good news? We’re all tackling this together. To help guide us, we’re excited to welcome Erica Brewster and Brendan Tuckey from LEANWI. LEANWI is a public library system partnership of systems serving 144 public libraries in north and western Wisconsin.
They’ll be helping all of us -- even those of us here at WiscNet -- better understand these requirements and learn practical ways to improve website accessibility, best practices, and training along the way.
Erica Brewster is the Data and Technology Services Consultant for Wisconsin Valley Library Service (WVLS) and LEANWI. She has 10+ years of experience in public library administration and 20 years of experience in non-profit and public sector administration. Her role with LEANWI websites focuses on project management, direct training of library staff, documentation, and help desk support.
Brendan Tuckey is the Technology Support Consultant for LEANWI, focusing on web development and is currently developing expertise in website accessibility. With a background in software development and testing, Brendan now manages 130+ library sites, designs and builds new sites, and ensures WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and ADA accessibility for all users.
Learning Objectives:
Review 11 key accessibility checkpoints participants can evaluate on their own websites
Understand specific fixes and general strategies for addressing common accessibility barriers
Recognize that digital accessibility is achievable and can often be implemented while preserving existing website functionality
This session takes a practical, plain-language approach to ADA digital accessibility, complete with live demonstrations that show what it’s really like to navigate a website using a screen reader or only a keyboard. You’ll walk away with realistic, actionable tips and a clearer understanding that improving accessibility doesn’t have to be overwhelming -- and it can absolutely work alongside your existing website functionality.
