WiscNet Security Assessment Service

Nutshell

WiscNet now offers a Security Assessment Service: Penetration Testing via  VIPRE Security Group. A penetration test (often called a “pentest”) is a safe and authorized exercise where cybersecurity professionals test an organization’s systems just like a real hacker would. The difference is that this is done with permission and in a controlled way. The goal isn’t to cause harm, but to find weaknesses before criminals do. Think of it like hiring an ethical burglar to test your doors, windows, and alarm system to see where you might be vulnerable.

Pentests are usually extremely costly, but because of WiscNet’s collective purchasing power, we’ve made this offering more accessible to WiscNet members. Pentesting through WiscNet is significantly cheaper than most options on the market and could give smaller organizations with limited budgets a real chance to perform pentesting at their locations.

A pentest helps you stay ahead of cyberthreats to access controls, user privilege escalation, customer data, financial information, employee records, intellectual property, and other data in your infrastructure. Conducting a pentest might also help your organization meet cybersecurity insurance requirements, compliance mandates or grant application conditions. Usually conducted once a year, a pentest is also recommended after launching a new website or system, after making any major technology changes, after a security incident, or when it’s required by regulations or customer contracts.

This particular pentest offering meets you where you’re at by starting with a preliminary scoping questionnaire at three technical levels: 1) If you’re a cybersecurity professional, 2) If you’re an IT professional, or 3) If you have no technical background. This helps inform what kind of pentest is right for you.

WiscNet is not the testing provider itself but supports and helps interpret pentest results so you don’t need to navigate the vendor relationship alone. This offering aligns with WiscNet’s Secure Platform strategy of offering affordable, community-based security services.
