Join us for a one-hour virtual panel discussion on Oct. 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. that takes on a hot topic: screen time. As classrooms become more technologically advanced by the day, the effects of screen time on students and learning have shown up in conversations, heated debates, school policies, and even statewide legislative efforts.
This session -- Teach & Learn with WiscNet - Screen Time: The Good, The Bad & The Complicated -- brings together IT directors, parents, librarians, and educators to discuss how they’re thinking about screen time, what they're seeing, and how they're finding a balance between making the most of technology and knowing when it’s time to set limits.
Intentionally organized as a panel discussion, this Teach & Learn brings many voices into the conversation. Together, they will identify the different forms of screen time and how student devices are currently being used at their organizations. Then, they’ll move from theory to practical, actionable, and achievable steps that districts can take to address screen time.
The panel will discuss:
-Where they’ve seen digital tools measurably improve learning vs. when they have acted as a distraction
-How they address the “screen time equity gap”
-Collaborative opportunities to promote healthy device habits
-Actionable pieces of advice to leverage technology to promote learning
-What resources are out there to help develop a framework around screen time
This one-hour Zoom session is included in WiscNet membership and free for guests. While the conversation is targeted at attendees who work in schools or libraries where students are present, the takeaways will likely resonate with parents of school-aged children, or anyone who is interested in screen time discussions.
