WiscNet Network Services
WiscNet’s Network Services take advantage of our multi-state network as the foundation of the WiscNet community and the services it shares. We strategically acquire and light optical fiber that allows us to operate a highly scalable and economical backbone network that provides redundant core routing—our goal is to keep as much of our traffic on-net as possible to provide a better end-user experience and keep costs low for our members. We accomplish this by exchanging network traffic and peering with others in the education, research, and commercial space. Our peers include the Federal Department of Energy’s ESNET, Internet2, Google, Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, Microsoft, and other Tier 2 service providers.
WiscNet is well known for its low cost, unlimited Internet Transit service. We obtain commodity Internet connectivity on 100-gigabit and 10-gigabit interfaces in Chicago and Minneapolis and our Network Service is E-rate eligible. We do not measure internet usage nor do we set limits or caps on the amount of data our member organizations use—pricing is based on the size and mission of each organization, not on bandwidth or data usage. We connect our WiscNet members to our Internet transit with a solution that is unique and specific to their network and organization’s needs. If looking beyond a single connection, WiscNet also offers dual and remote site connections and a Mulithoming service to ensure your networking and internet access options meet the goals of your organization.
