What is WiscNet?
WiscNet is an invaluable resource for education, research and public service in Wisconsin because it not only provides cost-effective, high-speed, highly reliable network connectivity, but it also provides opportunities for collaboration, consolidation and efficiency among organizations across the state.
As a product of the Wisconsin Idea, WiscNet provides the essential framework for expanding research and education beyond the classroom. By connecting organizations, building relationships and sharing services, institutions can achieve far more together than they can alone. If your organization is active in Wisconsin research, education or public service/government, we invite you to join WiscNet!
Today we are governed by an 11 member board of directors, elected by representatives from over 496 member organizations.
Our vision: "The strength and resources of the members are WiscNet.”
This is the vision that united representatives from 24 colleges and universities in 1989 in the effort to introduce high-speed Internet to Wisconsin's research and education community. The first WiscNet statewide network began operation in January of 1991 under a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Our mission is to fortify research, education and public service with advanced communication technologies. It is done in partnership. It is accomplished by strengthening the association, the members, and the communities to which we belong. It is championing the Wisconsin Idea by advancing high-performance networks and services that extend member resources throughout the state and beyond. We connect the world to Wisconsin and Wisconsin to the world.
