About Us

WiscNet is a non-profit, membership-based association of public and private organizations that provides access to worldwide information and computing resources with primary emphasis on education, research, and public service. If your organization is active in Wisconsin research, education or public service/government, we invite you to join WiscNet!

Our Vision: “The strength and resources of the members are WiscNet.”

This is the vision that brought education folks together from 24 colleges and universities in 1989 in the effort to get high-speed Internet. The first WiscNet statewide network began operation in January of 1991 under a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Our Mission: Serve Wisconsin’s education, library, government, and affiliated organizations by...

  • Providing high quality, cost effective network services and adding value to the network through the services we provide
  • Helping people use information technology services effectively
  • Fostering information and resource sharing
  • Embracing partnerships with government, consortium, education and information provider organizations

Today we are governed by an 11 member board of directors, elected by representatives from our 428 member organizations.  Our members include most of Wisconsin's colleges and universities, around 75 percent of the state's K12 school districts, most library systems, the State of Wisconsin, many local and municipal governments, hospitals and several nonprofit affiliated organizations.
